I try to go to every game when the Brewers are in town, because, and this is hard to say, I absolutely love the Brewers. I'm sorry. You can all hate me. But they're super fun. After Wrigley, Miller Park is my favorite place to watch a ballgame. I love the people and the team and their amazing food. I was there last season when they clinched their division, and it was spectacular. They are also pretty good to their fans. I went and watched them warm up.
Let me apologize now for the quality of the photos. I left my good camera at my parents' house. I think these were taken with my camera phone.
Rickie Weeks.
So the matchup was Shaun Marcum against Chris Volstad. Volstad had been acquired in the Zambrano trade. That was all we really knew.
Miller ad "Going Going Gone" refers to some phrase someone came up with sometime. I really don't know how it relates to Milwaukee so I am willing to be enlightened.
Here is the towel I got at the game in 2011 when the Brewers clinched their division. And now I must admit fully that I had every intention of cheering for the Brewers on this night. Sorry but I love them. I love the Cubs too! I do love the Cubs most of all but I can't cheer against the Brewers.
The rest of the team warmed up.
Randy Hundley through out the ceremonial first pitch.
More warming up.
I love taking pictures during the National Anthem. Don't judge me. I just love to see the players standing at attention getting all serious.
Anthony Rizzo fan in the house! Even though Anthony was still in Iowa.
And the game begins for Volstad. Poor guy.
Here is my first glimpse of Ryan Braun. He was met with a chorus of rowdy boos and horrible name-calling. Look, he was exonerated of steroid charges so everyone needs to get over it.
It seemed like Ryan got on base every single opportunity that night.
Here's Nyger "T. Plush" Morgan. You either love him or hate him. I still was undecided.
Aramis Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly and Morgan scored.
Yay to Corey Hart! I call him the Truck Driver, because doesn't he look like someone you would see at a truck stop?
You can see here that there are loads of signs in the left field bleachers saying all manner of rude things to Ryan. Here's another thing I shouldn't admit: I HATE sitting in the bleachers. The people there are drunk by the first inning and barely pay attention to the game.
It's still weird to see Aramis Ramirez at third base.
This is what that beautiful weirdo Braun does all game. Stretching. Retying his glove. Adjusting his pant legs. Anyway, Darwin Barney hit a home run, and then so did Bryan LaHair, who from thenceforth I referred to as LaHomer.
Then Rickie Weeks answered back with a homer of his own. At this point, the score is tied.
There's Braun on base again. I'm telling you, this guy just kept reaching. Shaun Marcum hit a sac fly and took the lead.
Stretchy stretchy.
Here I am with one of Angela's friends, and I don't know his name, and also Angela. It was cold. We usually don't buy stuff at games because we're poor, but hot chocolate was a must.
Jonathan Lucroy, one of my favorites.
Okay, then we had the fifth inning, when Blake DeWitt sacrificed Geovany Soto in, and we were tied again.
James Russell is apparently warming up, but this photo confuses me because he should be facing the other way.
Lots of things happened. Lots of scoring by the Brew Crew.
Hundley came back to try to cheer us up at the 7th inning stretch.
Lendy Castillo came on.
Lucroy and Barney share some laughs.
Here's James Russell.
But then the Brewers sent in John Axford. Here are his numbers. Not what you would expect from his warlock arm of greatness.
He pitched like a bo$$.
In the ninth, we made a go of it. We scored on an error, and then Steve "The Clev" Clevenger pinch hit like a boss and drove in a run with a single, then got to second on an error.
The fans were pumped when Jeff Samardzija was sent in to pinch run for The Clev. He had pitched a marvelous game the day before for the Cubs only win. But it didn't matter. He didn't really get to run.
The Brewers won 7-5. P.S., Starlin Castro had reached base safely in 43 games but did not tonight.
