Angela and I were not supposed to go to this game because it was a million dollars a ticket, and none of the players had offered up any comp tix. But then Stub Hub sent me a 50 dollar gift code so I used it, and we went. It was pretty cool to see the Red Sox play at Wrigley.
But first, how attractive is this dad?
I went early in the hopes of meeting Scott Podsednik. But I ran across the street to 7/11 to buy a water and he came into the park when I was gone. Wahhhhhhhh
Angela wanted to meet him too, btw.
I'm always excited for a chance to meet Dustin Pedroia, but I never do.
It continues to amaze me that they can fit that name on his jersey.
Any day Steve is starting makes me happy.
This is how I know we are related. We have the same hair texture.
Here's Scott Podsednik. He started off the game with a bunt single. He is soooo fast. He's barely not as fast as Tony Campana, who is the fastest man alive.
Pods reached second on a Pedroia walk. But no one scored.
Here's Kevin Youkilis, pre-White Sox.
Tony Campana walked.
Then he stole second, obviously.
Then he stole third, again, obviously.
Alfonso walked, and LaHair walked.
Then The Clev was up to bat, and he hit a double, because he is a boss.
He drove in Campana and Soriano.
And LaHomer moved to third.
But Darwin grounded out to end the inning, with the Cubs up 2-0.
Ryan Dempster pitched a heck of a game.
Luis Valbuena had been called up from AAA, as Ian Stewart had been put on the DL for a bum wrist.
In the bottom of the second, Ryan Dempster helped himself out with a triple.
I thought Tony Campana leading MLB in stolen bases is interesting, considering he started the season in the minors and doesn't play every day. What a beast.
DeJesus singled, driving in Dempster, and moving over Castro, who had been hit by a pitch, to third. Then DeJesus stole second. The inning ended with the Cubs up 3-0.
Scotty Pods again.
Here's Danny, my favorite usher.
In the fifth, Scott grounded into a fielder's choice, but then he salvaged it by stealing second. Seriously, this dude is fast.
Bryan LaHair grounded out in the fifth, but I just love him anyway.
Here's the great battery of Dempster--Clevenger.
When Dempster left the game in the eighth, he had only given up four hits and no runs.
James Russell relieved in the 8th and he was great.
Then for some reason, they brought in Marmol for the ninth. You know, because he's our closer. I feel bad saying mean things about him, but he always brings me to the verge of a heart attack.
Today was no different.
Here's Scotty Pods at first, and the bases loaded, with the dangerous Pedroia up to bat. That's how DramaMarmol likes to do it.
Everyone stood to support the Cubs in getting the final out, knowing one Pedroia swing could give the Red Sox the lead.
But we win. So enjoy the pictures.
David DeJesus gets interviewed after games a lot. He doesn't get enough credit.
Here's Blake Parker. Seriously so nice and so attractive.
Joe Mather, dressed to the nines.
Blake said hi.
We enjoyed our walk back to our car in Wrigleyville and looked at all the buildings.
