My mission this season was to meet five players I considered important to my biography as a baseball fan. Number one was Johnny Damon, so I went to see him play for the Indians against the White Sox. Mission accomplished.
I used to be a HUUUGE Red Sox fan. Johnny Damon and his long luscious locks led the Sox to their first World Series win since the curse of the Bambino. He went to the gross Yankees, but I loved him anyway. I went to Detroit to see him when he played there, and to Rays games last year to catch him, but I only got his autograph by passing a ball down and no interaction.
I finally got my wish of meeting Johnny Damon!
My sister Veronica got to meet him too!
Love that hair.
So many Indians stopped for autographs and chit chat.
This is Steve Stone. Most of what I learned about baseball, I learned from watching this man as the color commentator for the Chicago Cubs. He is now the color commentator for the White Sox.
Very excited to meet Shin Soo Choo!
Waiting by the White Sox dugout, I accidentally dropped some garbage on the steps. Lucky garbage to go in the dugout....
This is the biggest Brent Lillibridge fan in the world! We always happen to go to the same games. Her parents are very supportive of her feelings.
Eduardo Escobar is so friendly to his fans.
Hi Tyler Flowers!
It's always a surprise when Bob Saget sings the National Anthem.
Silver fox.
Jake Peavy and AJ walking back from warmups.
It was a 1-2-3 first inning for Jake Peavy.
I was excited to see the words Santa Maria, California, because that's Robin Ventura's hometown. I told you guys I loved him.
In the bottom of the first inning, Gordon Beckham started off with a single.
Then Adam Dunn singled. Then Paul Konerko singled to drive in Beckham.
AJ Pierzynski doubled, driving in Adam Dunn.
Dayan Viciedo singled, driving in Konerko and Pierzynski. End of first inning, 4-0 White Sox.
Another 1-2-3 inning for Peavy, but here is Johnny Damon anyway. Remember when I met him?
Quick inning all around, but here's Gordon Beckham's hair anyway.
In the third inning, the Indians got five runs, putting them ahead 5-4.
So Adam Dunn started off the bottom of the third with a double.
Paul Konerko hit another double, driving in Adam.
Alex Rios singled to drive in Konerko. Then Viciedo homered, driving in Rios.
Alexei Ramirez came up and singled.
Brent Lillibridge enjoying life.
Ramirez stole second.
Derek Lowe.
Gordon Beckham flied out to end the inning, but the Sox were now up 8-5. But look at his hair.
Peavy had another 1-2-3 inning, thanks to a well-called Pierzynski game.
Paul Konerko hit a double in the fourth. He is just so amazing.
Jake Peavy gave up a tiny 2-run homer to Jason Kipnis, putting the Indians down only 8-7.
Johnny Damon has a great jawline.
I seriously see a Twins fan at every game I go to.
Meanwhile, Southpaw celebrates life with kids.
In the seventh, Robin Ventura took out Peavy and brought in Matt Thornton.
Gordon Beckham still trying to hang out with Paul Konerko.
Here's a big hole in Alex Rios' pants.
Top of the seventh, Paul Konerko walked, then Rios doubled. Konerko then scored on an error. Sox up 9-7.
Pierzynski singled.
Viciedo singled, driving in Rios. De Aza then grounded out to drive in Pierzynski. Then Viciedo scored on an error. White Sox up 12-7.
Johnny Damon. But the Indians did not score in the 8th.
Paul Konerko is amazing.
He hit another double.
Lillibridge came in to run for Konerko.
Calm, cool, and collected as always.
Then Rios homered. Sox up 14-7.
And the Sox won.
After the game, I met the beautiful, well-dressed and articulate Darrin Jackson, radio man for the White Sox, which is how I "watch" most of the Sox games.
This kid is a dedicated kid.
Matt Thornton and Choo shooting the breeze.
