Game #21 Padres at Cubs 5/27/12

WOO HOOOO The Padres are in town, complete with two of my favorite ex-Chicago players! One was Andrew Cashner. I think the Cubs made a big mistake getting rid of pitcher Cashner. Also, he and Mike the vendor had a great reunion before he reunited with us.

Angela and Andrew Cashner

If I didn't love Andrew Cashner so much, I would never post this disgusting photo.

Ian Stewart and the Cubs warming up.

Angela was so ready for this game.

Chase Headley warming up like a boss.

The other player that I was happy to say hello to was ex-Sox star Carlos Quentin, now a Padre.

We love Theo Epstein, so we loved this kid's shirt.

On patriotic holidays, I enjoy going to baseball games. What better way to celebrate America than at a game that represents all that is beautiful about our game?

This was Angela and my first meeting with new Cubs catcher Blake Lalli. The Cubs were going through catchers like nobody's business.

I love when Travis Wood pitches. Talk about underrated! Watch him in the coming years.

The Cubs warmed up on this warm day. This was definitely the hottest game of the year, with the temperature hovering around 90 degrees the whole day.

Brian Dennehy threw out the first pitch.

Oh, Ian.

Here's a special bald eagle treat on this holday!

The best friends James Russell and a shaven Jeff Samardzija discuss.

Carlos Quentin was just coming off the DL.

He doubled in the first, driving in a run. My boy getting things done! I mean, officially I object to him hurting the Cubs, but off the record yay!

He was left on base, though, and now you get to see one of the best head of hairs in baseball.

David DeJesus, my favorite lead-off man, got things started with a triple.

Starlin, not to be outdone, hit a single, driving DeJesus in. Then he stole second.

Meanwhile, it was frickin hot. Matt Garza, who is always entertaining while he's in the dugout, tries to keep cool.

LaHomer grounded out to drive in Starlin. At the end of the first, Cubs were up 2-1.

Oh my goiooooooosssssh it was so hot!

The Deuce, Ian Stewart, at the hot corner. Defensively solid as a rock.

Joe Mather enjoying Travis Wood's 1-2-3 inning.

In the bottom of the second, Darwin Barney went ahead and homered.

Will Venable homered, but here is Brian LaHomer artfully catching Carlos Quentin's popup.

Top of the fourth, Chase Headley homered. Then Everth Cabrera homered. The Padres were up 4-3.

The Cubs wasted no time. LaHomer doubled, then Soriano doubled to drive him in. And then Ian Stewart homered like a boss. End of the fourth, Cubs led 6-4.

Top of the fifth, Quentin walked and Chase Headley homered again, tying the game.

Randy Wells came in to relieve in the sixth. The Padres got another run to go up 7-6.

The Cubs were like COME ON! Haven't we hit enough today? Fine. So LaHomer singled and Fonzie drove him in with a home run. Cubs up 8-7.

Look at this photo and at how the ump is making sure bases are tagged.

Blake Lalli

Shawn Camp came in to relieve Wells in the seventh.

The outfielders partied while Camp warmed up.

In the bottom of the 7th, Reed Johnson singled, then stole second.

And Starlin Castro homered again. Cubs up 10-7.

LaHomer and Fonzie singled. Ian Stewart singled to drive in LaHomer.

Darwin Barney lined out to end the inning, then chomped his gum. End of the 7th, Cubs up 11-7.

After a quiet 8th, Casey Coleman came on to end the game in the ninth.

Cubs win 11-7 to end a 12-game losing streak.

Here's Blake Parker, in case you're interested.

Well howdy, Jed Hoyer, Cubs GM!

I got a little sun.

There were good moods galore. Here Travis Wood signs for fans.

I told Jeff I missed his beard. He said, "wait a minute and it'll be back."

This is Jeff while Angela is telling him she wore her Notre Dame hat because she thought he was pitching. He said, "You're one day early."
